About placetopee.net
placetopee.net does one thing: it shows you the nearest public toilet and how far away it is.
I’m Tapio Kauranen, and I made it because I saw the need for it. When you need a toilet, you don’t want to search a map, scroll through results or sign up for anything. You want a name and a distance, right now. So that’s all this site shows.
How it works
Open the site and allow location access. It finds the nearest public toilet in a list it already has, and shows its name and distance. On phones with a compass an arrow points the way, and “Open map” opens walking directions in your maps app. If the toilet turns out to be closed, the icon next to the heading lists other toilets nearby.
Your location stays with you
Your location is only used on your own phone, to work out distances. This site never sends it anywhere. Your maps app only gets the toilet’s position when you tap “Open map”.
Where the toilets come from
The toilets come from OpenStreetMap, a free map of the world made by volunteers. Portugal and Finland are covered for now, and I plan to add more countries. Because the map is kept up to date by volunteers, a toilet can occasionally be closed, moved or missing. If you spot a mistake, you can fix it on OpenStreetMap and everyone benefits.
